Sunset over a Canal

Amsterdam is a beautiful, alluring city. I fell in love with the charming canals, the old architecture and the people. On my last night, I watched the sun setting over a canal and took this photograph.

Prague at night

Old Prague is beautiful. It’s great to walk around, site-see and enjoy the architecture. I really like the effect when you can tell something or someone is in motion. I took some shots of moving objects and people. The image on the left is of tourists wandering around old Prague. The image on the…

2014 Tulip Festival

The Tulip Festival in Noordoostpolder, Holland is breathtaking. You are surrounded by so much beauty that it’s surreal and feels like a fairytale. It’s incredible to see all of the different types of tulips. This was one of my favourite sites in Holland. If you’re visiting during Spring, I recommend stopping by.

View from a Plane

I went on a trip last week and visited Prague, Stockholm and Amsterdam. They are such beautiful cities and it was a great experience. I was really impressed with older architecture and how different each city was. I took lots of photographs and will…

Spring Flowers
I saw a bouquet of flowers next to the road. I really liked the contrast between the strength of the cold, hard cement and the fragile, delicate beauty of the flowers. I took this photo in colour to highlight the difference between these two subjects.

Photographs from a closer perspective

It’s fun to take shots of objects from different perspectives. Things that look ordinary from a distance can look really special closer up. I wanted to share four colour photographs that I took of ordinary items. We usually pass by these items everyday and view them at a distance. I felt that the discarded newspaper on a bench, the…

Colour Photography: Puddle Reflections
I wanted to take some new photos using my DSLR camera. Yesterday, it was overcast and a bit rainy so there were puddles everywhere. I started to notice how things were reflected in the puddles. It caught my attention and I chose to take some photographs. I’m glad I did because the photos have a…

Using Colour to Strengthen a Photo
I love the timelessness of b&w photography and the energy of colour photography. Depending on the subject, colour can enhance the strength of a photo. I recently took photos where one colour was prominently featured. I feel that using this technique can increase the depth of a photo and make it a bit more interesting.…

Getting to know my DSLR camera

I purchased my first Digital Single Lens Reflex camera for my trip to Ireland at the end of August 2013. I’ve taken quite a few photos using this camera. Some have turned out better than others. I want to take better photos and improve my skills. To accomplish my goal, I need to get…

Black & White Photography: Changing the mood and impact

In previous post, I mentioned that I love black and white photography. Colours affect the mood, vibe and overall impact of a photo. Stripping out the colour can place more focus on the angles, shadows and tones. The photo on the left is the original photo that I took of an icy/snowy log at beach. …
